Job Title
Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer
Role Summary
The Equipment Software Design team develops embedded firmware and higher-level interface software for custom semiconductor equipment. This role designs, debugs, and optimizes firmware that directly controls electronic systems and collaborates with electrical, mechanical, and control engineers.
Work is hands-on in the lab and includes hardware bring-up, manufacturing support, and resolving system-level issues across global teams.
Experience Level
Senior — requires 4+ years of embedded software development tightly coupled to custom hardware.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include embedded firmware development, hardware bring-up, and cross-discipline support for test equipment.
- Design and develop embedded software from bare metal to Linux for custom semiconductor equipment.
- Write and maintain code in C, C++, Bash, and Python for embedded and host interfaces.
- Perform hardware bring-up using schematics and layout drawings; validate designs in the lab.
- Debug firmware–hardware interactions using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, SMUs, and other lab tools.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI), manufacturing, and production troubleshooting.
- Create technical documents and communicate status with globally distributed teams.
- Collaborate with software, electrical, mechanical, and control engineers to deliver next-generation memory testers and related equipment.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and demonstrated hands-on experience. Preferred skills listed after required items.
- 4+ years of embedded software development tightly coupled to custom hardware.
- Strong proficiency in C and C++ for embedded environments.
- Ability to read schematics and trace hardware/software interfaces for debug.
- Working knowledge of analog and mixed-signal circuits sufficient to understand signal paths and measurement techniques.
- Hands-on experience using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, power supplies) to debug real systems.
- Comfort debugging issues that span firmware, board-level electronics, and electromechanical interactions.
- Experience or interest in Agentic AI code development and integrating Agentic workflows into processes.
-
Nice-to-have: Python and Bash proficiency, Linux and GNU toolchain experience, device driver or kernel-level debugging, PCIe software/hardware familiarity, calibration experience, and programmatic interfacing with lab equipment.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical degree; or equivalent practical experience. (The posting explicitly allows equivalent experience in lieu of the degree.)
