Senior Embedded Engineer, AI IP

Role Summary

Develop and maintain user-mode and kernel-mode drivers for high-performance AI accelerator hardware. You'll create reference drivers, define driver interfaces, and collaborate with hardware, kernel, and performance teams to integrate Tenstorrent devices into customer systems.

This is a hybrid role based in Toronto, ON, Canada or Belgrade, Serbia. Employment may be contingent on eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled technology; offers can be rescinded if compliance cannot be met.

Experience Level

Senior. Typical candidates have 7+ years of device driver or low-level systems programming experience. Candidates may be assessed for a different level during interviews.

Responsibilities

Deliver and support production-quality drivers and interfaces for Tenstorrent hardware.

• Design and evolve the driver layer to provide high-performance APIs for Tenstorrent devices.
• Develop and maintain user-space and Linux kernel drivers for system integration.
• Define driver interfaces and specifications to enable portability across internal and third-party hardware.
• Collaborate with kernel and hardware teams to optimize cross-layer performance and PCIe integration.
• Drive performance engineering: benchmarking, profiling, and optimizing API and driver paths in customer environments.
• Support external integrations and customer-specific optimizations, including safety-critical use cases when applicable.
• Produce tests, documentation, and diagnostics to support system integration and debugging.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; concise list of preferred extras follows.

• Must-have: Strong proficiency in C and C++ and deep understanding of hardware–software interfaces.
• Must-have: Hands-on experience developing Linux kernel drivers, including kernel architecture, debugging, and kernel-space/user-space interactions.
• Must-have: Experience with device drivers or low-level systems programming and strong systems debugging skills.
• Preferred: Driver development for high-speed I/O or interconnects such as PCIe; PCIe driver experience strongly preferred.
• Preferred: Experience with performance profiling, benchmarking, and optimizing memory/communication paths.
• Preferred: Experience supporting external integrations and customer-specific systems; familiarity with safety or reliability requirements (automotive/mission-critical) is a plus.
• Effective collaboration skills to work across hardware, kernel, and software teams.
