Role Summary

The Imaging team develops electro-optical and infrared imaging systems for defense applications. This role leads FPGA architecture and embedded firmware development, prototyping hardware, and taking designs from lab and flight testing to production in collaboration with electrical, software, and systems engineers.

Senior - typically requires 10+ years of experience in HDL/FPGA firmware development.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include FPGA architecture, firmware development, integration, and validation for imaging products.

• Lead FPGA architecture, development standards, and design reviews.
• Design, simulate, and integrate RTL (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog) into FPGAs or SoCs for performance, resource, and power targets.
• Collaborate cross-functionally for hardware/software integration, including processor bring-up and board support packages.
• Create and run test benches and laboratory validation using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other test equipment.
• Optimize algorithms for hardware acceleration and efficient on-chip bus use (e.g., AXI/AXI-Stream) and performance (MIPS optimization).
• Build prototypes, support ground and flight testing, and mature prototypes into production-ready designs.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred technical qualifications for the role.

• Must-have: 10+ years developing HDL firmware for FPGA devices.
• Must-have: Expertise in VHDL and/or Verilog/SystemVerilog for RTL design.
• Must-have: Experience with industry-standard FPGA toolchains (e.g., Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus).
• Must-have: Strong hardware/software debugging skills using standard lab equipment.
• Must-have: Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) for collaborative development.
• Must-have: Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with multi-gigabit SERDES, DDR memory buses, Ethernet MAC/PHY interfaces, SPI, and I2C.
• Embedded software experience with timers, interrupts, and hardware peripherals (SPI controllers, ADCs).
• Embedded Linux knowledge (device trees, drivers, bootloaders) and basic Unix/Linux tooling.
• Familiarity with Python and MATLAB for tooling and analysis.
• Experience with infrared image sensor technology.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is typically required; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
