Job Title

Senior Embedded Engineer

Role Summary

Work on the Imaging team to design and mature embedded hardware and firmware for new product lines, from architecture and prototype through ground and flight testing. The role focuses on FPGA/SoC RTL design, hardware/software integration, verification, and performance optimization within multidisciplinary teams.

Experience Level

Senior - 10+ years of experience developing HDL firmware for FPGA devices.

Responsibilities

Design, validate, and deliver embedded FPGA/SoC systems and firmware for imaging products.

  • Lead FPGA architecture, standards, design reviews, and development processes.
  • Design, simulate, and integrate VHDL/Verilog RTL into FPGAs or SoCs for performance, area, and power.
  • Collaborate with electrical, software, and systems engineers for processor bring-up and board support.
  • Develop testbenches and perform verification using VHDL/Verilog and lab tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
  • Optimize algorithms for hardware acceleration and efficient use of on-chip bus protocols (e.g., AXI, AXI-Stream).
  • Build and iterate prototypes leading to ground and flight testing and transition successful prototypes to product-releases.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and clearance eligibility.

  • 10+ years developing HDL firmware for FPGA devices and delivering production hardware.
  • Expertise in VHDL and/or Verilog/SystemVerilog for RTL design.
  • Experience with industry FPGA toolchains such as Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus.
  • Strong hardware/software debugging skills and experience using standard lab equipment.
  • Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) for collaborative development.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with multi-gigabit SERDES, DDR memory busses, Ethernet MAC/PHY, SPI, and I2C.
  • Embedded software experience with timers, interrupts, and hardware peripherals (SPI, ADCs).
  • Knowledge of embedded Linux (device trees, drivers, bootloaders) and Unix/Linux tools.
  • Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, and infrared image sensor technology.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is typically required.
