Senior Embedded Developer for Bluetooth

Role Summary

Join the Bluetooth team in Bristol as part of a small engineering group responsible for developing and maintaining the Bluetooth stack used in high-volume products. The role focuses on implementing Bluetooth features, integrating software with hardware, debugging protocol and firmware issues in bare-metal and RTOS environments, and building automated tests to ensure field reliability.

Work will include close collaboration with hardware teams and occasional travel for interoperability events.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include implementing and validating Bluetooth firmware, collaborating with hardware engineers, and improving test coverage and reliability.

  • Translate Bluetooth specifications into production-quality embedded firmware.
  • Design and implement automated tests and validation procedures for firmware.
  • Debug complex protocol and hardware integration issues in bare-metal and RTOS environments.
  • Collaborate with hardware teams to influence chip design and ensure software/hardware compatibility.
  • Participate in interoperability events and work with standards bodies as required.
  • Contribute to technical design reviews, documentation, and continuous improvement of development practices.

Requirements

Must-have and beneficial skills and attributes.

  • Must-have: Strong proficiency in C and proven experience in embedded software development.
  • Must-have: Experience debugging and developing on bare-metal and RTOS-based systems.
  • Must-have: Strong problem-solving, communication skills, and ability to work effectively in a small team.
  • Nice-to-have: Python experience for tooling and test automation.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with wireless protocols (Bluetooth or other), low-power embedded design, ARM Cortex microcontrollers, or real-time operating systems.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience applying AI-assisted tools to firmware development.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for interoperability events.

Education Requirements

Degree in Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, Cybernetics, or a related field.
