Job Title

Senior Electronics Systems Integration & Validation Engineer

Role Summary

Lead integration, system-level verification, validation, and deployment of complex electronics, embedded software/firmware, FPGA, and control systems for photonic quantum computing platforms. Collaborate with Optical, Software, Firmware, Electronics, and Test Engineering teams to define test strategies and ensure systems meet performance, reliability, and operational-readiness requirements.

Experience Level

Senior - typical guidance: M.S. or Ph.D. with 5+ years relevant industry experience, or B.S. with 10+ years.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include system integration, verification, validation, and technical leadership across hardware, firmware, and software interfaces.

  • Lead integration, bring-up, verification, and validation of electronic, embedded software, firmware, FPGA, and control subsystems.
  • Define and execute system integration, verification, and test strategies, acceptance criteria, and automated test frameworks.
  • Develop and run system-level test plans with Optical, Software, and Quantum Engineering teams to validate hardware, firmware, software, detector readout, data-acquisition, timing, and control interfaces.
  • Integrate and validate single-photon detector readout, high-speed digitizers, PIC multiplexing systems, timing/synchronization electronics, and data-acquisition subsystems.
  • Drive structured, data-driven root-cause investigations and cross-domain debugging (hardware, firmware, software).
  • Validate releases; develop diagnostics, health-monitoring tools, and automation to improve test coverage and reliability.
  • Maintain integration procedures, validation protocols, work instructions, and technical documentation for manufacturing, deployment, and field support.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership to improve integration and test methodologies.

Requirements

Core technical skills and experience required; photonics/quantum experience is preferred.

Must-have:

  • Demonstrated experience integrating, verifying, validating, and troubleshooting complex electronic systems including embedded software, firmware, FPGA-based systems, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Experience developing and executing system integration, verification, validation, factory/site acceptance testing, production bring-up, and structured root-cause analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with high-speed digitizers, detector readout systems, data-acquisition systems, timing and synchronization electronics, or comparable measurement/test platforms.
  • Strong understanding of hardware/software interfaces, communication protocols, and system-level debugging across hardware, firmware, and software.
  • Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages for test automation, diagnostics, instrumentation control, and data analysis.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, FPGA interface documentation, system architecture diagrams, and engineering specifications.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills; ability to lead technical investigations in fast-paced environments.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with photonic integrated circuits (PICs), single-photon detector systems, laser and fiber-optic systems, cryogenic instrumentation, or other quantum technologies.

Education Requirements

M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field with 5+ years of relevant industry experience; or B.S. in these fields with 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
