Role Summary

Lead failure analysis of customer-returned SSDs at the component and board level. Diagnose electrical and physical root causes, manage critical RMA cases, produce formal failure analysis reports, and coordinate corrective actions with hardware, firmware, validation, and customer teams.

This role is performed onsite daily in the lab in Longmont, CO.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Experience guidance: 5+ years in product, systems, validation, or quality engineering (7+ years if holding only a bachelor's degree).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include electrical diagnostics, failure analysis, reporting, case management, and mentoring.

• Perform electrical diagnostics using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power measurement tools to isolate component-level failures.
• Conduct electrical and mechanical failure analysis on returned SSDs, including repair and rework at board/component level.
• Collaborate with hardware design, firmware, and validation teams to reproduce anomalies and recommend corrective actions for product revisions.
• Set up and manage debug systems for design-of-experiments (DOE) and error replication.
• Lead technical aspects of RMA cases and act as the primary technical liaison to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Produce and deliver comprehensive failure analysis reports to internal and external teams.
• Provide technical consultation and status updates to customer-facing teams.
• Coach and mentor early-career engineers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and capabilities.

• Hands-on expertise with electrical debugging tools and board/component-level failure analysis, including repair and rework.
• Strong knowledge of signal integrity, power delivery, and component-level failure mechanisms in high-speed SSD/NAND systems.
• Ability to interpret schematics and perform board-level analysis with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for technical reports and customer interactions.
• Experience managing multiple technical cases and coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience in the storage industry and customer-facing technical roles.
• Familiarity with PCIe, SATA, and bus-tracing tools for system debugging.
• Project coordination and time-management skills; willingness to work flexible hours and travel as needed.
• Comfort using AI tools to increase efficiency.
