Job Title

Senior Electrical Engineer, Radio Device RF Architecture Engineer

Role Summary

Member of the Advanced Development Engineering team in Plantation, FL responsible for designing radio transceiver mixed-signal subsystems for mission-critical public safety communications. Work focuses on RF modems, mixed-signal ICs, RF components and PCB subsystems used in Motorola radio products.

This is a full-time, on-site role (Monday–Friday) involving system architecture, modeling, IP integration, silicon bring-up and cross-functional collaboration with firmware, digital, analog layout, verification and test teams.

Experience Level

Senior - requires extensive experience; basic posting indicates 10+ years of radio transceiver design experience.

Responsibilities

Primary technical and delivery responsibilities include:

  • Translate product-level radio requirements into mixed-signal RF microarchitectures (PLLs, synthesizers, baseband and RF amplifiers/filters, AGC, RF control state machines).
  • Develop behavioral system models to derive and manage block-level specifications for radio modems and RF subsystems.
  • Evaluate, select and integrate internal and external RF IP and COTS ICs into SoC and PCB solutions.
  • Perform power modeling and thermal management strategy development across operating modes and low-power states.
  • Design, model and verify analog/mixed-signal circuit blocks and feedback control subsystems (e.g., PLL, AGC).
  • Collaborate closely with digital design, firmware, layout, verification, product and test teams through tape-out, bring-up and product deployment.
  • Assess third-party IP and COTS components for modem and transceiver development.
  • Document designs, communicate technical trade-offs, and drive alignment across multidisciplinary global teams.
  • Occasional travel under 10% for collaboration or integration activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Proven track record of digital radio transceiver and radio modem subsystem development from concept to shipped product.
  • Strong background in RF and mixed-signal IC design as well as RF PCB design.
  • Solid experience in analog/mixed-signal block and feedback-control system modeling (PLLs, AGC) and verification using Cadence or equivalent tools.
  • Experience evaluating and integrating 3rd-party IP and COTS ICs for modem development.
  • Familiarity with mixed-signal verification and languages: Verilog-A, Verilog-AMS, SystemVerilog, and UVM; comfortable with shell/scripting tools.
  • Applied knowledge of digital signal processing for modulation/demodulation in fading radio channels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to drive technical alignment across global cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with custom CMOS mixed-signal design and SoC RF IP integration.
  • Experience with fractional multi-loop synthesizers, advanced power/thermal optimization, and system-level power modeling.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
