Job Title

Senior Electrical Engineer - Planning & Coordination

Role Summary

Senior individual contributor on Microsoft Quantum Hardware focused on planning, coordination, and execution of electrical engineering hardware programs (PCBs and superconducting integrated circuits). The role leads supplier engagements, process development, and cross-functional delivery to meet technical, schedule, and budget targets.

Works with qubit design, electrical and mechanical engineering, supply chain, fabrication partners, contract manufacturers, and leadership to drive hardware development from early validation through production readiness. Position is hybrid based in Redmond, WA (approximately 3 days/week in-office).

Experience Level

Senior-level. Preferred 10+ years of engineering program management or hardware development experience; minimum experience may follow listed degree-equivalency guidelines.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include program planning, supplier coordination, and cross-team execution.

  • Lead end-to-end planning and execution for electrical engineering initiatives including PCB and superconducting integrated circuit development, validation, integration, and sustaining activities.
  • Manage PCB supplier and manufacturing engagements: capability assessments, technical reviews, readiness evaluations, process development, design rules, and yield/performance tracking.
  • Coordinate across qubit design, electrical, mechanical, systems engineering, reliability, sourcing, supply chain, fabrication partners, contract manufacturers, and integrators to align deliverables and resolve blockers.
  • Develop and improve electrical and PCB development processes, documentation, quality frameworks, design review practices, DFM/DFT, test/validation workflows, and manufacturing readiness processes.
  • Own program budgets, resource planning, cost modeling, and actuals tracking for assigned efforts.
  • Communicate with technical and executive stakeholders, synthesize input into decision frameworks, influence outcomes, and mentor junior staff.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications and capabilities; preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Demonstrated experience coordinating PCB supplier/manufacturing engagements and executing technical hardware programs across multiple teams.
  • Must-have: Program management experience owning schedules, critical-path analysis, risk mitigation, budgets, and resource planning.
  • Must-have: Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills; ability to synthesize technical input for executive decision-making.
  • Must-have: Ability to pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check and supply required citizenship or protected status verification for access to export-controlled information.
  • Must-have: Ability to leverage modern AI tools for engineering productivity and analysis.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with superconducting integrated circuits, signal integrity, power delivery, PCB stack-ups, and advanced hardware domains (quantum systems, HPC, embedded systems).
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with DFM/DFT, early-stage process development, vendor/EMS/CM management, and supplier performance control.

Education Requirements

Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, or related field with 1+ year industry/R&D experience; OR Master’s in Physics, Engineering, or related field with 4+ years industry/R&D experience; OR Bachelor’s in Physics, Engineering, or related field with 6+ years industry/R&D experience; OR equivalent practical experience.
