Job Title

Senior Electrical Engineer

Role Summary

Design and validate analog/digital electronics and embedded firmware for semiconductor capital equipment. Work on system-level architecture, PCB design direction, firmware/FPGA development, motion control, and production test development within a product development team.

The role supports system characterization, compliance testing, customer-facing technical activities, and occasional international travel to customer sites.

Experience Level

Senior - role expects experienced engineers. The posting requires a minimum of 5 years of work experience in a product development environment.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include end-to-end hardware and firmware development, validation, and cross-functional support.

  • Design analog and digital circuits, select components, create schematics, and specify interconnect/cabling.
  • Contribute to system-level architecture for semiconductor capital equipment and guide PCB layout work.
  • Develop firmware for PLDs, FPGAs, and microcontrollers; work with FPGA/ASIC flows and Verilog.
  • Design and implement motion control for servo/stepper motors and automated robotic systems.
  • Create performance characterization, validation and compliance test plans; participate in system-level testing.
  • Define functional requirements and performance specifications; document designs and produce FMEA analyses.
  • Develop and document production test processes with pass/fail criteria and assist troubleshooting of failing components/designs.
  • Provide technical support to sales and service teams and communicate designs and status to engineering and management.
  • Follow the product lifecycle process and collaborate across hardware and software teams.
  • Travel internationally to customer sites at least 20% of the time as required.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; select items noted as nice-to-have.

  • Must-have: Proven motion control experience with servo/stepper motors and related control systems.
  • Must-have: Experience with embedded microprocessors and firmware development for PLD/FPGA/microcontrollers; familiarity with Verilog and ASIC/FPGA concepts.
  • Must-have: Experience using PCB layout tools; experience with Altium is a plus.
  • Must-have: Track record in product development of integrated systems (examples: motion control, staging, optics, imaging, illumination, PC-based control systems, power management).
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot electronic designs and to develop production test requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work across organizational levels.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and to support cross-functional teams.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with semiconductor wafer processing, defect inspection equipment, automated test equipment, and probe cards.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with compliance standards such as SEMI, CE, UL, CDRH.

Education Requirements

BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering required. The posting also specifies a minimum of 5 years of work experience in a product development environment.
