Senior EDA/CAD Engineer
PsiQuantumJob Title
Senior EDA/CAD Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Electronic-IC team to develop and maintain the CAD environment that enables custom schematic, layout, and mask designers working on silicon-photonics VLSI and advanced process technologies. The role combines tool and environment development with hands-on support to keep design teams productive.
Experience Level
Senior β typical experience 5+ years in an EDA/CAD or IC design support role.
Responsibilities
Provide tool development, environment maintenance, and user support for analog/digital IC design flows and compute infrastructure.
- Maintain design databases, data integrity, and version-control/design-data-management systems (e.g., IC Manage, Cliosoft or equivalent).
- Install, configure, and support foundry PDKs and process technology files.
- Develop automation and utilities using Perl, Python, and Cadence SKILL.
- Own and maintain the custom-design environment for schematic and mask designers.
- Support CAD tools used by IC designers, including Cadence Virtuoso/ADE, HSPICE and other simulators, and Verilog/SystemVerilog flows.
- Maintain and improve cloud-based design environments, compute infrastructure, and user workflows.
- Work with CAD tool vendors to evaluate tools, troubleshoot bugs, and improve usability.
- Troubleshoot environment issues and provide day-to-day end-user support to maximize team productivity.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role; nice-to-have items listed separately.
- Must-have: Solid electrical-engineering fundamentals with knowledge of MOSFET behavior, CMOS layout, and VLSI design practices.
- Must-have: Strong programming and automation skills in Perl, Python, and Cadence SKILL.
- Must-have: Experience with version control and design-data-management systems and workflows.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience supporting Cadence Virtuoso/ADE, HSPICE (or equivalent) simulation environments, and Verilog/SystemVerilog flows.
- Must-have: Proven troubleshooting, debugging, and communication skills; experience providing technical support to design teams.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with cloud-based compute environments for EDA, vendor interactions to evaluate/fix tools, and developing infrastructure for new process technologies.
Education Requirements
Degree requirement: B.S. in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent practical experience) with 5+ years of relevant experience, or M.S. in Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience. Equivalent experience in lieu of a listed degree is explicitly accepted.
