Job Title

Senior Distinguished Engineer, Data Center Management & Control Plane

Role Summary

Lead the software architecture and technical direction for Marvell's Integrated Management Control Processor (IMCP) platform. The role sits on the MBE Software Solutions and Architecture team and focuses on platform management, telemetry, security, lifecycle orchestration, and integrations across server, storage and networking infrastructure.

This position engages Tier‑1 hyperscale cloud operators, OEM/ODM partners, and IC engineering to translate customer requirements into silicon features, firmware, and production‑ready platform solutions.

Experience Level

Senior — this is an executive‑level engineering role with extensive experience (see Education Requirements for degree-to-years mappings).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on defining and delivering IMCP platform architecture, customer engagements, and cross-functional technical execution.

  • Own end-to-end software and firmware architecture for the IMCP platform, including BMC integration, telemetry, security, lifecycle management, and connectivity.
  • Create reference architectures and solution blueprints for hyperscalers, OEMs, and ODMs.
  • Drive alignment with industry standards (Redfish/Swordfish, IPMI, PLDM, MCTP, OpenBMC, OBMF, OCP, CXL management extensions, Secure Root of Trust).
  • Serve as primary technical architect in engagements with Tier‑1 hyperscale cloud providers and embed in their design cycles.
  • Translate customer software/firmware requirements into silicon feature requirements and PPA guidance; participate in silicon architecture reviews.
  • Act as single-threaded technical owner for IMCP programs from architecture through production ramp; maintain decision records and risk registers.
  • Develop proof-of-concept implementations, reference designs, and technical collateral; represent Marvell at industry forums.

Requirements

Must-have technical expertise and demonstrated track record delivering management/control-plane solutions at scale.

  • Deep expertise in BMC firmware and SoC architecture, including design, integration, and deployment.
  • Experience with platform management stacks (OpenBMC, OpenRMC, or equivalent BMC firmware) and platform telemetry pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of RAS frameworks and fault/error-handling architectures.
  • Experience with platform security: Root of Trust, secure boot, attestation, and firmware signing.
  • Proven ability to define end-to-end software architecture for complex embedded platforms and author architecture specifications and design documents.
  • Track record engaging directly with hyperscale cloud providers and translating requirements into product architecture and integration designs.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration with IC design, firmware, validation, and platform software teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Active participation in standards or consortia (OCP, DMTF, CXL Consortium) and ability to represent company technical interests in working groups.
  • Familiarity with Caliptra, DICE, SPDM, and TPM measurement architectures is preferred.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 19+ years of related professional experience; or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 17+ years of experience; or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 12–15 years of experience.
