Job Title
Senior Director Device/Process Technology
Role Summary
Senior technical leader responsible for device development and process technology across internal Renesas fabs and external foundry partners. Leads engineering teams to define, scale, and document semiconductor processes and device architectures, and to deliver ESD solutions and technology roadmaps.
Main mission: ensure manufacturable device designs, meet performance/reliability targets, resolve process- and device-related tape-out and ramp blockers, and align technology work with business priorities such as wafer cost and long-term manufacturing strategy.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 15β20 years of semiconductor engineering experience with demonstrated leadership or team management experience.
Responsibilities
Accountable for technical strategy, execution, and cross-functional delivery for device and process technology.
- Lead definition, optimization, and scaling of advanced active and passive semiconductor devices for multiple product groups.
- Define, develop, and execute plans of record (POR): schedules, deliverables, risk mitigation and KPIs.
- Own process definition, documentation, management, and continuous improvement to meet stakeholder needs.
- Use TCAD and device modeling to optimize device structures for performance, power, and area (PPA).
- Drive cross-functional execution with internal fabs and external foundries to achieve POR targets.
- Evaluate process-window impacts on device characteristics, reliability, and variability.
- Serve as technical interface to Operations Engineering Division (OED), key customers, and suppliers.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure on-time delivery and required quality.
- Assess wafer cost models, investment ROI, competitive benchmarks, and long-term manufacturing strategy.
- Escalate issues promptly and lead corrective actions to remove tape-out or ramp blockers.
Requirements
Essential technical and leadership capabilities required to perform the role.
- Strong device, physics, and process-technology background with hands-on experience in semiconductor device characterization and process specifications.
- Experience defining device safe-operating limits and resolving device/process issues during tape-out and ramp.
- Proficiency with TCAD or equivalent device-simulation tools for device optimization.
- Proven ability to lead engineering teams and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including foundry partners.
- Experience driving process documentation, change control, and continuous process improvement.
- Strong ownership of project schedules and milestones; ability to manage risk and escalate appropriately.
- Effective communicator capable of representing the organization in customer meetings and technical reviews.
- Familiarity with wafer cost modeling, ROI assessment, and manufacturing strategy is a plus.
Education Requirements
Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Material Science with focus on solid-state electronics/semiconductors (explicitly listed). The posting pairs these degrees with 15β20 years of semiconductor engineering experience.
