Job Title

Senior Director, Device/Process Technology

Role Summary

Lead device development and process technology across Renesas internal fabs and external foundries, including ESD architecture, process specifications, device characterization, and scaling of advanced active and passive devices. Manage engineering teams and coordinate with business units, customers, and suppliers to deliver technology roadmaps and manufacturing objectives.

Provide technical leadership to resolve tape-out and ramp blockers, optimize wafer cost and ROI, and drive long-term manufacturing strategy.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Approximately 15–20 years of semiconductor engineering experience with leadership responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical leadership, process definition, and cross-functional execution:

  • Define, optimize, and scale active and passive semiconductor devices for all product groups.
  • Develop and execute plans of record with schedules, deliverables, and risk mitigation.
  • Define and manage process documentation, specifications, and continuous improvement.
  • Optimize device structures using TCAD simulation tools to improve performance, power, and area.
  • Drive execution with internal and external foundry partners to meet technology POR KPIs.
  • Evaluate process window impacts on device characteristics, reliability, and variability.
  • Architect and manage ESD solutions across internal fabs and external foundries.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and operations to ensure required quality and on-time delivery.
  • Escalate and resolve technology issues related to tape-out and ramp processes.
  • Act as technical interface to customers and business units, reporting development status and decisions.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and leadership capabilities:

  • Deep device physics, semiconductor process technology, and device characterization expertise.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams and coordinating cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience with TCAD simulation and device optimization for PPA.
  • Track record working with internal fabs and external foundry partners.
  • Ability to analyze wafer cost models, perform competitive benchmarking, and inform ROI decisions.
  • Strong ownership of project schedules, milestones, and risk management.
  • Effective communicator in customer meetings and formal technical reviews.
  • Experience driving process improvements and implementing new workflows.

Education Requirements

Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Materials Science with a focus on solid-state electronics/semiconductors. The posting specifies approximately 15–20 years of semiconductor engineering experience.
