Senior Digital System Designer
PsiQuantumJob Title
Senior Digital System Designer
Role Summary
Member of the System-Architecture team responsible for defining and implementing digital-logic systems that control PsiQuantum's photonic quantum computer. Work spans algorithm design, cycle-accurate modeling, FPGA integration, and cross-discipline collaboration to meet stringent latency and throughput constraints.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 5+ years of relevant digital-design experience.
Responsibilities
Translate system requirements into concrete digital hardware designs and implement end-to-end solutions that meet low-latency, throughput, and footprint targets.
- Gather and convert high-level requirements into hardware requirements and specifications.
- Design and implement low-latency algorithms for real-time data-plane tasks in an optical quantum computer.
- Develop cycle-accurate Python models for simulation and integrate them into discrete-event simulations.
- Implement corresponding SystemVerilog (or VHDL) RTL that matches Python models and constraints.
- Integrate algorithms and RTL into FPGA platforms and toolchains; collaborate with FPGA designers.
- Write behavioral tests and verification code (Python) to validate implementations.
- Collaborate with physicists and other engineers to resolve trade-offs and optimize designs.
- Produce clear requirements, design documentation, and technical reports.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 5+ years of digital-design experience.
- Proven experience with SystemVerilog or VHDL for design and simulation.
- Experience working with FPGAs (Xilinx preferred) and associated toolchains.
- Experienced Python programmer for modeling, verification, and tooling.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills for loosely-defined, complex problems.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-moving startup environment and collaborate across teams and time zones.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Distributed system experience involving event correlation under real-time constraints.
- Experience with High Level Synthesis (e.g. Xilinx Vitis).
- Experience using Python for verification (e.g. Cocotb).
- Knowledge of photonics and linear optics.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
