Job Title
Senior DFT Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Edinburgh digital design team to define and implement DFT architectures across complex ASICs to maximize manufacturing test coverage, support silicon bring-up, and improve product reliability.
The role works closely with RTL, verification, physical design, and test engineering teams and contributes to automation and methodology improvements.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 7+ years of relevant DFT / ASIC experience or demonstrable equivalent industry experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Define and implement chip- and block-level DFT strategies for complex ASICs.
- Develop and integrate scan architecture, scan compression, boundary scan, MBIST and LBIST solutions.
- Drive ATPG generation, fault simulation, failure diagnosis, and coverage closure.
- Collaborate with RTL, verification, synthesis/STA, physical design, and test teams to integrate DFT constraints and flows.
- Perform DFT verification using simulation and support silicon bring-up, debug, and failure diagnosis.
- Develop automation scripts and methodologies to improve DFT productivity and quality.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Proven industry experience in a DFT engineering role.
- Strong understanding of digital design and test methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with scan insertion and scan compression techniques.
- Experience with ATPG tools and fault simulation, and with test coverage analysis and diagnosis.
- MBIST and LBIST implementation experience.
- Familiarity with JTAG / IEEE 1149.1 standards.
- Experience with industry EDA tools such as Siemens Tessent and Synopsys TetraMAX/TestMAX.
- Strong scripting skills in Tcl and Python.
- Familiarity with Verilog/SystemVerilog and simulation environments.
- Excellent debugging, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master’s or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline; proven industry experience in a DFT position is required.
