Senior Design Verification Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Senior Design Verification Engineer
Role Summary
Work in the SoC Design Verification organization to plan and execute pre-silicon verification for SoCs, subsystems, and IP. The role covers verification planning, testbench and test development, simulation/regression, coverage closure, debug, and readiness for pre-silicon release.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typically requires 3+ years of relevant ASIC/SoC/IP/FPGA verification experience; higher-level roles (Staff/Principal) require substantially more experience and technical leadership.
Responsibilities
Deliver verification for blocks, subsystems, or SoC features through planning, execution, and signoff. Key responsibilities include:
- Translate specifications into verification plans, test scenarios, functional coverage, and signoff criteria.
- Develop and maintain SystemVerilog/UVM testbenches, sequences, drivers, monitors, scoreboards, assertions, and reusable verification components.
- Create directed, constrained-random, assertion-based, and coverage-driven tests for functional, corner-case, error, reset, power-state, security, performance, and low-power behavior.
- Verify RTL integration, interfaces, register programming, interrupts, clocks/resets, power-management behavior, interconnect, coherency, and subsystem connectivity.
- Run and debug simulation, regression, lint, CDC/RDC, formal, emulation, FPGA, and gate-level verification flows where applicable; analyze failures and perform root-cause debug.
- Define, track, and close functional, code, assertion, toggle, and coverage metrics; identify verification gaps and improve stimulus quality.
- Collaborate with RTL, architecture, integration, synthesis, firmware, and post-silicon teams to review specs, drive defect resolution, and support bring-up.
- Develop scripts and automation (Python, Perl, Tcl, Shell, or similar) to improve regression, debug, reporting, and verification productivity.
- Document verification plans, test results, coverage status, limitations, waivers, and release recommendations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience. Preferred items noted separately.
- Relevant work experience in ASIC/SoC/IP/FPGA hardware design verification (practical experience expectation: ~3+ years for senior roles).
- Hands-on experience with SystemVerilog and UVM-based verification environments.
- Experience with simulation, regression execution, waveform debug, and functional coverage analysis.
- Solid understanding of digital design fundamentals: RTL, FSMs, protocols, clock/reset behavior, and SoC architecture.
- Scripting and automation skills (Python, Perl, Tcl, Shell, or similar).
- Strong analytical, debugging, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Nice-to-have: experience with formal verification, assertion-based verification, CDC/RDC analysis, emulation, FPGA prototyping, gate-level simulation, power-intent verification, and coverage-closure/signoff processes.
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with AMBA protocols (AXI, AHB, APB), interrupts, DMA, coherency, memory systems, interconnect/NoC behavior, and commercial or internal EDA tools.
- For Staff/Principal levels: demonstrated technical leadership, methodology ownership, mentoring, and successful SoC delivery.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is listed as the baseline; a Master’s or PhD in those fields is preferred/acceptable. The posting also lists degree/experience equivalencies (example: Bachelor's +2–3 years, Master’s +1 year, or PhD). Specific degree language: B.S./B.Eng. in EE/CE/CS or related; M.S./M.Eng. or PhD in related fields are recognized.
