Job Title
Senior Design Verification Engineer
Role Summary
Work on verification for Microsoft AI accelerator SoCs within the AI Silicon Engineering (AISiE) team, delivering pre-silicon functional verification and post-silicon validation across block, chip, and system levels.
Collaborate with architects, designers, firmware, and validation teams to define verification plans, build verification environments, and close coverage for complex silicon IP and systems.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting expects multi-year industry experience; preferred candidates typically have 6+ years of relevant verification experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing verification environments and tests, driving verification strategy, and debugging verification failures.
- Develop verification environments and test suites for block, subsystem, SoC, and system-level verification, and support post-silicon validation.
- Define verification plans with architects and design engineers; drive feature and coverage completeness.
- Implement scoreboards, constrained-random tests, assertions, and functional coverage models.
- Triage and debug simulation, emulation, and testbench failures.
- Develop automation, Makefiles, and scripts to scale verification flows and CI.
- Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and continuous integration practices.
- Collaborate effectively across distributed, cross-functional teams.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical skills and compliance requirements.
-
Must-have: Significant hands-on experience creating simulation environments, developing tests, and debugging verification flows; strong knowledge of verification principles and testbench structure.
- Familiarity with SystemVerilog and UVM methodologies and functional coverage closure.
- Experience debugging testbenches, simulations, and emulation environments; scripting for automation (Python, Ruby, Perl or similar).
- Ability to work with architects and designers to define verification strategies and requirements.
- Ability to meet Microsoft security screening and export-control access requirements; successful hire must provide proof of citizenship or US residency where required.
-
Preferred / Nice-to-have: Verilog or VHDL, C/C++, CPU or graphics core verification experience, hardware emulation or FPGA experience, firmware and secure/non-secure boot flow knowledge, synthesizable RTL experience, and broader software development skills.
- Strong communication skills and experience collaborating across multiple sites and disciplines.
Education Requirements
Degree preferred: Doctorate, Master's, or Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; the posting explicitly allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of a degree (e.g., PhD +1 year, MS +4 years, BS +5 years, or equivalent experience).
