Senior Design Verification Engineer
MicrosoftJob Title
Senior Design Verification Engineer
Role Summary
Join Microsoft Silicon within SCHIE to lead pre-silicon verification and post-silicon validation for custom IP, subsystems, and SoC-level blocks that support Microsoft Cloud infrastructure. The role focuses on defining verification and validation strategies, executing end-to-end verification plans, and collaborating with architecture, design, firmware/software, product engineering, and vendors.
Experience Level
Senior. Prefer candidates with substantial verification experience (posting indicates 7+ years preferred in design verification and multiple IPs/sub-systems). The role expects expertise in block- and sub-system-level verification and silicon validation.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities are pre-silicon verification and post-silicon validation for custom IP and subsystems:
- Define and implement pre-silicon verification (simulation, emulation, FPGA) and post-silicon validation strategies and test plans.
- Execute end-to-end verification plans at block, sub-system, and system levels.
- Develop and maintain UVM-based verification environments and drive coverage closure.
- Create C-based testbenches and use basic C/C++ for test infrastructure.
- Plan and execute silicon bring-up and post-silicon validation activities.
- Collaborate across teams to enable reuse of verification components and ensure comprehensive testing.
- Provide technical leadership through mentorship and cross-team coordination.
- Adopt and apply AI-based tools and agents to improve verification efficiency.
Requirements
Key technical requirements and strong preferred skills for this role.
- Proven experience with UVM-based verification methodology and coverage-driven verification.
- Experience executing block- and sub-system-level verification and debugging complex IPs/SOCs.
- Practical knowledge of silicon bring-up and post-silicon validation flows and tooling.
- Ability to develop, run, and debug C-based test infrastructure; familiarity with C/C++.
- Experience collaborating with architecture, design, firmware/software, product engineering, and vendors.
- Strong problem solving and communication skills; able to lead technical discussions and mentor engineers.
- Familiarity with formal verification tools (e.g., Jasper) is a plus.
- Experience developing firmware for standard processors (boot flow, interrupts, memory handling) is a plus.
Education Requirements
Posting specifies degree or equivalent experience options: Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 1+ years technical experience; OR Master’s degree in those fields with 4+ years; OR Bachelor’s degree in those fields with 5+ years; OR equivalent experience. Preferred: B.S. or higher in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
