Senior Design Engineer
Role Summary
The Senior Design Engineer will join the hardware design team at NXP Semiconductors, focusing on FPGA-based prototyping and emulation of complex SoC designs. The role involves collaboration with RTL designers, verification engineers, and software teams to facilitate early software development and system validation.
Experience Level
Mid-level, requiring 3–4 years of hands-on experience in FPGA prototyping or emulation.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining FPGA-based prototyping platforms for pre-silicon validation.
- Integrating and debugging RTL blocks on FPGA platforms (e.g., Xilinx, Intel/Altera).
- Collaborating with design and verification teams to bring up emulation environments.
- Optimizing FPGA resource usage and timing closure for large-scale designs.
- Supporting software teams with early access to hardware through emulation/prototyping.
- Automating build and deployment flows using scripting languages (Python, Tcl, Shell).
- Documenting design flows, debug procedures, and providing training/support to internal teams.
Requirements
The following qualifications are required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 3–4 years of hands-on experience in FPGA prototyping or emulation.
- Strong understanding of digital design fundamentals and RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog).
- Experience with FPGA tools such as Vivado, Quartus, Synplify, or similar.
- Familiarity with emulation platforms like Palladium, Veloce, or Zebu is a plus.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Perl, Tcl).
- Good problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
