Job Title
Senior Custom Circuit Design Engineer
Role Summary
Responsible for design, verification, and physical implementation of high-speed, low-power custom circuits and memories for FPGA products. Works within the custom circuit and memory design team in R&D to meet performance, power, area and yield targets in advanced semiconductor processes.
Collaborates with architecture, circuit, layout and characterization teams across the full design flow from schematic and simulation through timing closure and model generation.
Experience Level
Senior — typically requires over 8 years of relevant industry experience in memory and custom circuit design, verification, validation, and integration.
Responsibilities
The core responsibilities include design, verification, layout planning, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver memory and custom circuit blocks.
- Design and develop high-speed, low-power custom circuits and memories (e.g., memory arrays, FPGA fabric macros) for advanced FinFET and nanometer CMOS technologies.
- Perform schematic capture, SPICE simulations, and margin and functional verification of major circuit blocks.
- Plan and oversee layout to ensure pitch-matched memory layouts and area-optimized custom layouts.
- Define and meet PPA (Performance, Power, Area) and yield targets in collaboration with architecture and design teams.
- Manage the full design flow: circuit design, physical implementation, compiler usage, characterization, timing closure, and model generation.
- Drive innovation and implement ideas that influence FPGA product designs.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted separately.
-
Must-have: Deep knowledge of custom memory and circuit design, including high-speed and low-power techniques.
-
Must-have: Experience with schematic capture, SPICE simulation, and variation-aware design for advanced semiconductor processes.
-
Must-have: Proven ability to manage full custom design flow and work with layout and characterization teams.
-
Must-have: Strong problem-solving skills and effective written and verbal communication; ability to work in cross-functional teams.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with large-density memory cell design for high yield.
-
Nice-to-have: Knowledge of semiconductor device fundamentals and additional custom circuit design experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
