Job Title

Senior CPU RTL Design Engineer

Role Summary

Hands-on RTL design engineer responsible for register-transfer-level implementation of CPU integer, floating-point and reservation-station logic and delivery of CPU IP for chip integration. The role provides technical leadership to the design team and works closely with architecture, verification and backend teams to meet power, performance, area, and timing goals.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Guidance: typically 6+ years in silicon development focused on CPU microarchitecture and logic design, with demonstrated technical leadership (5+ years) and experience delivering IP projects.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include RTL implementation, optimization, verification support, and cross-team technical leadership.

  • Develop and optimize RTL (coding and simulation) for CPU integer, floating-point and reservation-station logic.
  • Contribute to microarchitecture and architecture definition for CPU features.
  • Optimize designs for power, performance, area and timing; prepare RTL for physical implementation.
  • Review verification plans, diagnose failing RTL tests, and implement corrective fixes to ensure functional correctness.
  • Provide technical leadership and process/methodology improvements to increase team efficiency and product quality.
  • Collaborate with backend, architecture, and other design teams to integrate IP into full-chip designs.
  • Cultivate a strong technical organization and mentor team members.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience are listed first; preferred qualifications follow.

Must-have:
  • 6+ years of experience in silicon development focused on CPU microarchitecture and logic design.
  • Hands-on RTL implementation experience for integer, floating-point and reservation-station logic, including RTL coding and simulation.
  • Experience with timing closure and power convergence activities for CPU designs.
  • Familiarity with out-of-order execution and reservation station design.
  • 5+ years of technical leadership experience delivering IP projects.
  • Proven problem-solving, analytical skills, and effective verbal and written communication.
Preferred:
  • Experience with x86 CPU microarchitecture.
  • Experience driving front-end methodologies and applying automation or AI tools to improve development outcomes.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or related field with 8+ years of work experience; OR Master's degree in those fields with 7+ years of work experience; OR PhD in those fields with 4+ years of work experience. Advanced degrees are listed as preferred. Equivalent practical experience obtained through relevant coursework, projects, research, internships, or prior jobs is acceptable.
