Job Title

Senior CPU RTL Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement RTL for high-performance CPU blocks (integer, floating point, reservation station, OOO execution) and provide technical leadership to deliver IP integrated into full-chip products. Work closely with architecture, verification, and backend teams to meet power, performance, area, and timing targets.

Experience Level

Senior — requires substantial experience in CPU microarchitecture and silicon development. The posting specifies multi-year experience expectations (see Education Requirements for degree/experience combinations).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include hands-on RTL work, design optimization, and cross-team technical leadership.

  • Develop RTL, write and maintain synthesizable code and testbenches; run simulations and debug failing RTL tests.
  • Participate in architecture and microarchitecture definition and translate features into RTL implementation.
  • Optimize logic for power, performance, area, and timing; support timing closure and power convergence activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to design teams; propose methodology and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with verification, backend, and other design teams to ensure correct integration and delivery of CPU IP.
  • Resolve RTL issues and implement corrective measures discovered during verification and integration.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills; preferred items noted separately.

  • Must-have: 6+ years of silicon development experience in CPU microarchitecture and logic design (integer and/or floating point, OOO execution, reservation station design).
  • Must-have: Experience in RTL coding, simulation, and delivering silicon IP to tape‑in or integration stages.
  • Must-have: Experience with timing closure and power convergence.
  • Must-have: 5+ years of technical leadership experience, including delivering successful IP projects.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with x86 CPU microarchitecture.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience driving front-end methodologies and using automation or AI tools to improve design productivity.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and written/verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively in fast-paced, collaborative environments.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a related field, with experience requirements as follows: Bachelor's +8 years, Master's +7 years, or PhD +4 years. The posting also cites equivalent experience pathways and states that experience may come from education, projects, research, internships, or prior jobs.
