Job Title

Senior CPU RTL Design Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and optimize CPU register-transfer level (RTL) code, logic structures, and microarchitectural features for Intel processors. Work with architecture, verification, physical design, and SoC integration teams to deliver CPU IP blocks that meet power, performance, area, and timing goals.

Experience Level

Senior - typically 5+ years of relevant CPU RTL design experience (or 3+ years with a Master's degree, per posted minimums).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include RTL development, specification, verification support, and cross-team integration.

  • Develop and optimize CPU RTL using SystemVerilog; perform RTL simulation and debug.
  • Write and optimize logic for power, performance, area, and timing (PPA).
  • Define and document microarchitectural specifications (MAS) for CPU features.
  • Collaborate with architecture, verification, physical design, and SoC customers for integration.
  • Review verification plans, resolve failing RTL tests, and ensure design integrity for physical implementation.
  • Support power-aware design and cross-clock-domain crossing strategies.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience (education requirements are summarized separately below).

  • 5+ years CPU RTL design experience using SystemVerilog with strong logic design, simulation, and debug skills.
  • Experience with low-power and energy-efficient logic design techniques and high-frequency optimization (3+ years noted in posting).
  • Experience with cross-clock-domain crossings and power-aware design (3+ years noted in posting).
  • Proficiency in scripting (TCL, Perl, or Python) for automation and flows (3+ years noted in posting).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ownership of complex technical deliverables, and ability to collaborate across teams.

Preferred / nice-to-have:

  • Knowledge of CPU power management (DVFS, power/electrical budgeting, P/C states, thermal and reset sequences).
  • Familiarity with Intel Architecture (x86), high-speed datapath and circuit optimization, circuit planning, and timing convergence.
  • Experience with static timing analysis, UPF, and lint checks.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in those fields with 3+ years of relevant experience (as stated in the posting).
