Senior Compiler Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and advance compiler technologies for Intel C/C++/DPC++/Fortran compilers and contribute to the LLVM ecosystem. Work with hardware architects, validation, and performance teams to optimize code generation and enable new processor capabilities.
The team focuses on delivering high-performance, scalable compiler features for cloud, AI, enterprise, and HPC workloads in a hybrid work model.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting expects experienced engineers (typically 6+ years of professional software development experience).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, implementation, validation, and optimization of compiler components and features.
- Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain advanced compiler technologies and software components.
- Drive implementation of new compiler features and resolve complex software defects.
- Analyze real-world applications, workloads, and benchmarks to identify optimization opportunities.
- Improve performance and efficiency of compiler-generated code for Intel CPU architectures.
- Conduct functional, performance, scalability, and stress testing to ensure product quality and reliability.
- Partner with hardware architects and platform teams to enable new processor capabilities.
- Collaborate across global engineering, validation, and performance teams to deliver products.
- Contribute to open-source compiler initiatives and industry standards where appropriate.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship within the engineering organization.
Requirements
Required and preferred technical skills, excluding degree requirements (listed separately below).
Must-have:
- 6+ years of professional software development experience using C/C++.
- Strong background in object-oriented programming, algorithms, and data structures.
- Experience optimizing software for CPU performance and efficiency.
- Excellent analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills; ability to drive technical investigations independently.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in global engineering environments.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with vectorization technologies and parallel programming models (e.g., OpenMP).
- Experience with LLVM or similar compiler frameworks and knowledge of assemblers, linkers, and low-level system software.
- Strong understanding of compiler optimizations, code generation, and CPU architecture.
- Experience with performance profiling and analysis tools such as perf, and experience analyzing/tuning software across complex workloads.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Informatics, or a related technical field. Preferred: Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
