Senior Characterization & Verification Engineer
Role Summary
As a Senior Characterization & Verification Engineer on the Power Semiconductor R&D team you will lead electrical and thermal characterization and verification of power semiconductor devices (SiC Schottky diodes, SiC-MOSFETs, Si-MOSFETs, IGBTs). You will drive automation and standardization of measurement systems across global labs and deliver data and reports used for product design, datasheets, and verification.
Estimated gross annual salary: approximately €80,000–€100,000.
Experience Level
Senior — minimum 5 years of relevant experience in semiconductor device characterization or a related field.
Responsibilities
Lead and execute characterization and verification workstreams; collaborate with design and product teams; develop and automate test setups; analyze results and document findings.
- Plan and perform electrical and thermal characterization tests to ensure comprehensive functional coverage.
- Collaborate with design owners and product managers to develop test specifications and verification plans.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize automated test setups and measurement systems to improve efficiency and reproducibility.
- Analyze measurement data and produce technical reports for datasheets and internal design documentation.
- Conduct design-verification reviews aligned with international standards.
- Drive global harmonization of standard operating procedures (SOPs) across characterization laboratories.
- Identify and implement best practices in metrology, automation, and data analysis.
- Troubleshoot test failures, define corrective actions, and support their implementation.
Requirements
Core technical skills and hands-on experience required; additional skills are desirable.
- Must-have: Minimum 5 years' experience in characterization of semiconductor devices (power devices such as Si, SiC, GaN).
- Must-have: Practical experience with instruments such as oscilloscopes, parameter analyzers and PXI systems.
- Must-have: Experience developing automated tests and measurement control using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, C, C++ or C#.
- Must-have: Strong understanding of measurement-circuit design, high di/dt and dv/dt transient effects, and thermal characterization methods.
- Must-have: Experience with PCB design and development of test fixtures.
- Must-have: Experience working in a global laboratory environment with cross-site collaboration.
- Must-have: Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and drive process improvements.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with IEC 60747 and JEDEC standards, including thermal impedance (Rth/Zth) analysis.
- Nice-to-have: Experience in statistical data analysis and measurement-system evaluation.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Semiconductor Technology, or a closely related field.
