Job Title

Senior BIOS Engineer (Wireline)

Role Summary

Design, develop, and maintain BIOS/UEFI firmware for 800G datacenter switch platforms. Work on low-level firmware, platform bring-up, secure boot, and interoperation with BMC, PRoT, and NOS teams across the full hardware lifecycle.

Position is on the firmware and system software team at Jabil Design Services Branch in Sanchong and requires close collaboration with hardware and cross-functional engineering groups.

Experience Level

Senior-level (title indicates senior). Prior experience as a BIOS/UEFI engineer with platform bring-up and production lifecycle participation is expected.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include firmware design, platform bring-up, and cross-team validation.

  • Design, develop, debug, and maintain BIOS/UEFI firmware based on switch hardware and platform requirements.
  • Perform high- and low-level design and integration for features such as power sequencing, hardware initialization, PCI enumeration, and boot flow management.
  • Act as platform owner or domain expert; provide technical guidance and mentoring for BIOS architecture and bring-up.
  • Collaborate with hardware, BMC, PRoT, and SONiC/NOS teams to validate BIOS on custom switch platforms and ensure correct firmware handoffs.
  • Implement and maintain secure boot and measured boot configurations aligned with platform security policy.
  • Develop and maintain ACPI tables, SMBIOS structures, and UEFI device drivers for switch-specific hardware components.
  • Participate in system integration, validation, and root-cause analysis throughout the platform development cycle.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience are listed first; preferred items follow.

  • Hands-on BIOS/UEFI firmware development experience using EDK2 or proprietary UEFI frameworks.
  • Strong C/C++ skills and experience with embedded firmware architecture, code tracing, and low-level debugging.
  • Good understanding of processor initialization and platform boot flows (x86 or ARM).
  • Experience with low-level hardware protocols: PCIe, SPI (flash), I2C, SMBus, UART, GPIO, eSPI.
  • Strong knowledge of UEFI specifications and firmware phases (PI, SMM, DXE, PEI, BDS) and shell environments.
  • Familiarity with ACPI/ASL and SMBIOS table construction for platform hardware description.
  • Proven ability to port BIOS firmware to custom hardware platforms and implement platform-specific initialization.
  • Experience participating in a complete hardware platform lifecycle from bring-up to production.

Nice-to-have / Preferred

  • Experience with datacenter switch or networking hardware (e.g., 400G/800G ASICs, OCP designs).
  • Familiarity with secure boot integration, TPM 2.0, measured boot, and PRoT/RoT attestation flows.
  • Experience as a technical lead or platform owner for BIOS projects.
  • Familiarity with OpenBMC or BIOS–BMC interactions (IPMB, SSIF, BT) and manufacturing/validation tooling.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
