Job Title
Senior ASIC Floorplan Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement ASIC floorplans for high-performance GPUs and SoCs, partnering with architects, physical design, packaging, and product teams from early architecture definition through physical design to optimize area, power, and performance.
Work impacts products across graphics, AI, and autonomous systems.
Experience Level
Senior; requires 10+ years of relevant ASIC/chip development experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead floorplan development from early chip definition through physical implementation, balancing area, performance, and power.
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, ASIC design, physical design, packaging, and other teams to define and validate floorplans.
- Drive solutions for area, interconnect, timing, and power distribution to meet product targets.
- Develop and deploy AI-based workflows and productivity tools to improve floorplanning efficiency and execution speed.
- Identify technical and product risks and coordinate mitigation across engineering and management teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Proven experience developing SOC, CPU, graphics, memory, and I/O subsystems.
- Expertise in physical design methodologies, chip floorplan, power/clock/reset distribution, DFT, place-and-route, and timing closure.
- Experience with packaging considerations affecting floorplan and integration.
- Programming experience with Python, Perl, and/or C++; experience with AI-driven workflows and automation.
- Strong written, verbal, and technical communication skills; ability to drive alignment across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and resolve complex technical issues.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience driving large-scale ASIC floorplans for chiplet-based SOCs or CPU projects.
- Advanced algorithm development and programming for physical optimization.
- Ability to operate effectively with incomplete data and evolving requirements.
Education Requirements
MSEE or MSCE preferred, or equivalent practical experience. The posting explicitly allows equivalent experience in lieu of the listed master’s degrees.
