Senior ASIC Design Verification Engineer - Slingshot
Role Summary
Lead pre-silicon verification for HPE Slingshot switch and NIC ASICs, owning verification scope for blocks or subsystems and directing verification methodology. Work with architects, logic designers, and verification engineers to deliver verification sign-off and to integrate automation and AI-assisted workflows that improve verification throughput and quality.
Hybrid role: average 2 days per week onsite at an HPE office (Chippewa Falls, WI; Fort Collins, CO; or Bloomington, MN).
Experience Level
Senior - requires 10+ years of VLSI design, verification, or implementation experience.
Responsibilities
Accountable for all phases of pre-silicon design verification and for setting technical direction for assigned verification scope.
- Define and evolve team design verification methodology.
- Develop SystemVerilog and UVM/OVM testbench components, including bus functional models that drive and monitor stimulus.
- Plan and implement block- and integration-level scoreboards and checkers to verify functional behavior.
- Write and analyze functional coverage and drive coverage closure to meet milestones.
- Triage regression failures, identify logic bugs, and drive timely bug closure.
- Apply scripting, automation, and AI-assisted/agentic tools to improve verification speed and quality.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers and contribute to selection of future technical leaders.
- Drive VLSI innovation and integration of new technologies into the design organization.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience, and professional behaviors for this role.
- 10+ years of experience in VLSI design, verification, or implementation.
- Expert-level SystemVerilog skills and strong experience with OVM or UVM verification methodologies.
- Expert knowledge of programming and scripting languages, hardware description languages, EDA flows, and/or FPGA tools.
- Proven experience across pre-silicon verification phases: test-plan development, testbench development, regressions, coverage analysis, and sign-off.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to drive technical decisions.
- Ability to work effectively in a geographically distributed team.
- Executive-level written and verbal communication skills in English.
Preferred / nice-to-have:
- Experience verifying high-speed networking, switching, or NIC ASICs.
- Experience applying agentic AI coding tools and workflows to verification tasks.
- Familiarity with Python, Perl, Tcl in Linux development environments.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent; or equivalent practical experience. (The posting also specifies 10+ years of relevant VLSI experience.)
Compensation
US ranges listed in the posting: Colorado: USD 142,000 - 270,000 yearly; Minnesota & Wisconsin: USD 135,000 - 310,500 yearly. Actual offer may vary by location, experience, and skills.
