Senior Applications Engineer
Role Summary
Customer-facing engineering role in the Signoff Support group. Deploys and supports signoff EDA tools and works with customers, product teams, and foundries to resolve static timing, power integrity, signal integrity, and reliability signoff issues for advanced-node SoCs and 3DICs.
The role combines technical problem solving, tool expertise, and direct customer engagement to enable timely chip tapeouts and inform product improvements.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting specifies 2+ years of hands-on semiconductor design experience; the role requires demonstrated signoff expertise and customer-facing technical experience.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership for customer signoff issues and tool deployments. Key responsibilities include:
- Deploy and support signoff tools such as PrimeTime, RedHawk-SC, PrimeClosure, PTECO, Tweaker, and StarRC for advanced SoC and 3DIC designs.
- Diagnose and resolve STA, power integrity, signal integrity, and reliability problems across chip, package, and system levels.
- Own customer technical issues from report to resolution, coordinating across internal product and engineering teams.
- Translate customer pain points into product feedback and work with R&D to drive enhancements.
- Build and document best practices, automation, and FAQs for internal and customer use.
- Support presales activities: proof-of-concept deployments, benchmarking, and technical presentations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience, plus a few preferred qualifications.
- 2+ years hands-on semiconductor design experience with direct work in static timing analysis, timing closure, ECO implementation, or power distribution analysis.
- Proven experience providing technical support or customer-facing engineering in timing signoff or power integrity domains.
- Working knowledge of at least two of: PrimeTime, RedHawk-SC, PrimeClosure, PTECO, Tweaker, StarRC.
- Strong scripting/programming skills (Python, Tcl, Perl, or similar) to automate workflows and parse large datasets.
- Ability to manage multiple customer issues, present technical content to senior engineers, and coordinate cross-functional teams.
- Nice-to-have: experience with PDN implementation, advanced-node design flows (5nm/3nm), 3DIC integration, or presales/benchmarking experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience in semiconductor design.
