Senior Applications Engineer
SynopsysJob Title
Senior Applications Engineer
Role Summary
Field-facing engineer on the Synopsys Technical Sales Group (TSG) Hardware Assisted Verification (HAV) team supporting Zebu emulation and Protocompiler prototyping platforms. Provide technical support, migrations, feature deployments, training, and pre-sales evaluations for global customers.
Work closely with HAV R&D to reproduce customer issues, escalate with actionable test cases, and improve product quality and adoption.
Experience Level
Senior level. The posting specifies 2–3 years of experience with a Bachelor’s in Electronics Engineering or 1–2 years with a Master’s in Electronics Engineering, focused on emulation or prototyping environments.
Responsibilities
Primary customer-facing responsibilities and technical activities:
- Provide technical support for Synopsys Zebu Emulation and Protocompiler Prototyping products, troubleshooting partitioning, synthesis, place-and-route, and hardware debug.
- Migrate customer designs to new software releases and resolve regressions or performance issues.
- Deploy new software features on live customer designs and help customers adopt advanced workflows.
- Deliver technical training sessions covering basic tool usage through advanced multi-FPGA partitioning and hardware-software co-verification.
- Collaborate with HAV R&D to report issues, provide reproducible test cases, and advocate for product improvements.
- Support pre-sales evaluations by running customer designs through emulation and prototyping flows and demonstrating performance.
- Occasional travel to customer sites for onsite support, training, or critical issue resolution.
Requirements
Required technical skills and experience (must-have vs nice-to-have):
Must-have
- Hands-on experience with logic design and FPGA implementation, including synthesis, place-and-route, and timing closure.
- Strong working knowledge of Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL; ability to read, debug, and modify RTL written by others.
- Practical understanding of FPGA architecture and back-end implementation flows, including resource utilization, clock-domain crossing, and design partitioning.
- Ability to analyze synthesis logs, waveform dumps, and utilization reports to diagnose issues and produce reproducible test cases.
- Customer-facing communication skills and ability to manage multiple support tasks across time zones.
Nice-to-have
- Exposure to Xilinx or Intel/Altera synthesis tools.
- Familiarity with Synopsys prototyping or emulation hardware and toolchains.
- Experience with interface protocols such as PCIe, AXI, UART, or I2C in hardware-software integration contexts.
- Scripting skills (Python, Tcl, or shell) for automation and log analysis.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering (posting states 2–3 years' relevant experience) or Master's degree in Electronics Engineering (posting states 1–2 years' relevant experience), specifically with experience in emulation or prototyping environments.
