Senior Application Engineer, EDA
QorvoJob Title
Senior Application Engineer, EDA
Role Summary
Senior applications engineer responsible for defining, deploying, and supporting EDA methodology and flows for RF power amplifier (PA) and RF front-end module (FEM) development. The role combines hands-on GaN/GaAs PA design with EDA toolchain ownership and vendor collaboration.
Hybrid position with offices in Apopka, FL; Denver, CO; Richardson, TX; and Chelmsford, MA. Role requires access to ITAR/EAR technologies and applicants must be US Persons.
Experience Level
Senior / Professional level. Typical background: 5+ years of hands-on RF PA or FEM design experience (or equivalent advanced degree and experience).
Responsibilities
Provide practical PA design expertise and develop scalable EDA methodologies that correlate to silicon behavior.
- Support design of high-efficiency, high-linearity GaN and/or GaAs PAs and RF FEMs for 5G NR/6G, validating and improving EDA methodology.
- Lead or support integration of PA dies into multi-chip modules, optimizing for size, cost, and thermal performance.
- Provide day-to-day applications support for RF, analog, mixed-signal, and digital design teams using Cadence, ADS, HFSS, Synopsys tools, and similar.
- Develop, qualify, and deploy circuit-level and 3D EM RF design flows; ensure model-to-silicon consistency for GaN/GaAs technologies.
- Evaluate and pilot new EDA capabilities; benchmark tools against real PA design and correlation challenges.
- Partner with EDA vendors to resolve issues, influence roadmaps, and pilot new capabilities.
- Create reference flows, PDK enablement, reusable automation, and documented best practices across RF, AMS, and digital methodologies.
- Deliver training, documentation, and mentoring; present methodology and results to internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items marked accordingly.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience designing GaN and/or GaAs PAs/FEMs (HBT, HEMT) for cellular/5G/6G or similar RF applications.
- Must-have: Proficient with Keysight ADS, Ansys HFSS, and Cadence tools for RF circuit and EM design; experience with Synopsys HSPICE/PrimeSim/Xcelium or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Must-have: Strong RF fundamentals: S-parameters, impedance matching, stability, linearity, and RF measurement/characterization with model-to-silicon correlation.
- Must-have: Proven ability to translate hands-on design experience into scalable methodology, flows, and automation for multiple design teams.
- Must-have: Excellent technical communication and presentation skills; able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Must-have (eligibility): US Person status required to access ITAR/EAR technologies.
- Nice-to-have: Experience defining or deploying enterprise-wide EDA flows and methodology across multiple teams.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of EM, package, thermal, and multi-physics simulation for RF FEMs and experience transitioning designs to high-volume manufacturing.
- Nice-to-have: Prior collaboration with EDA vendors on tool qualification and roadmap development.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) required with 5+ years of industry experience in hands-on GaN and/or GaAs RF PA design; an advanced degree (MS/PhD) is acceptable in lieu of some experience. Equivalent practical industry experience will be considered.
