Senior Application Engineer
Role Summary
This role develops hardware, software and system-level enablement and reference solutions for NXP Automotive microcontroller platforms. The engineer supports new product introduction (NPI), provides technical troubleshooting for customer-facing teams, and partners with key automotive accounts to deliver proofs-of-concept and platform-level system solutions.
Experience Level
Senior — typically requires 5+ years of R&D experience in automotive electronics, industrial control, or embedded system design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on solution development, customer support, and cross-functional coordination.
- Design and develop hardware, software and system-level enablement (reference designs, evaluation boards, software reference implementations) for automotive MCU platforms.
- Participate in NPI activities and provide technical assurance through product introduction stages.
- Support front-line technical teams by troubleshooting complex issues and coordinating cross-functional resources to achieve closure.
- Collaborate with key accounts (OEMs and Tier 1s) to plan and execute POC projects and implement platform-level system solutions.

Must-have: 5+ years R&D experience in automotive electronics, industrial control, or embedded systems.

Must-have: Deep understanding of microprocessor architectures and subsystems (multi-core, system bus, on-chip peripherals, hardware accelerators/co-processors, cache, DMA) with extensive hands-on experience.

Must-have: Embedded software development experience in the automotive domain, including RTOS, AUTOSAR (CP), peripheral driver development, and advanced debugging techniques.

Must-have: Practical knowledge of Functional Safety (ISO 26262) and automotive cybersecurity concepts and their application.

Must-have: Experience or strong knowledge of ECU lifecycles covering system, software, hardware, and quality management.

Must-have: Strong cross-team and cross-regional communication skills; ability to use English as a working language.

Must-have: Self-motivated, responsible, able to multitask under pressure, work independently, and travel domestically and internationally as required.

Nice-to-have: Knowledge of Automotive Ethernet, Ethernet switches, and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN).

Nice-to-have: Familiarity with advanced E/E architectures and trends in Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV/SDA); experience applying generative AI to engineering problems.

Nice-to-have: Prior R&D experience at major automotive OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers; hands-on motor control development experience.

Nice-to-have: Experience with EMC/EMI design, testing, or troubleshooting for automotive electronics and broad awareness of automotive technical standards and technology trends.
