Job Title
Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Member of the Mixed-Signal IC design group responsible for architecting, designing, laying out, measuring, and productizing ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog and mixed-signal circuits for high-speed optical transceivers. The team works closely with digital/DSP, system, package and module design groups to deliver integrated ASIC solutions for 100Gβ1T optical products.
This is a hybrid role with a three-day-per-week onsite expectation in San Jose, CA.
Experience Level
Senior. Typical experience guidance from the posting: BSEE +12 years, MS +8 years, or PhD +5 years (or equivalent practical experience).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical leadership of complex analog/mixed-signal blocks, end-to-end development, and cross-team collaboration to deliver production ICs.
- Architect, design, layout, characterize and productize high-speed analog/mixed-signal CMOS blocks.
- Lead design efforts for large blocks on complex chips; mentor engineers and manage technical deliverables.
- Perform and participate in peer reviews and define robust design methodology from concept through production.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
- Develop high-speed AMS circuits (serial links, data converters, PLLs, etc.) and ensure manufacturability and testability.
- Coordinate with digital/DSP, system and module teams to integrate analog blocks into full products.
Requirements
Must-have:
- Proven experience designing, simulating and measuring high-speed analog/mixed-signal ICs and taking blocks to production.
- Experience across at least three of the following areas: high-speed serial links (serializers/deserializers), data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, phase-locked loops (PLLs), clock transmission/propagation, operational amplifiers, programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization.
- Hands-on layout and measurement experience for high-frequency/AMS circuits.
- Ability to lead technical efforts, mentor team members, and drive deliverables in a cross-functional environment.
Nice-to-have / Preferred:
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications) and photonic/optical transceiver systems.
- Experience with FinFET technology and high-frequency layout of passives (inductors, transformers, transmission lines).
- Floorplanning experience for mixed-signal chips (power/ground, digital/analog routing) and custom transistor layout expertise.
- Experience designing for manufacturability, ESD laboratory practices, and mixed-signal simulations (Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab, EMX, AMS flows).
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications listed: BSEE with 12+ years of relevant experience, MS with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years, or equivalent practical experience. (Degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related technical field implied.)
