Job Title
Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer — Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Hybrid role based in San Jose, CA (three days per week on-site). Member of the mixed-signal IC design group for Acacia developing high-speed optical transceiver ASICs (100G–1T) integrating photonics and DSP.
Lead architecture, design, layout, measurement, and productization of high-speed analog and mixed-signal circuits while coordinating with digital/DSP, system, package, and module teams.
Experience Level
Senior — substantial hands-on IC design leadership and delivery experience expected.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture, design, verification, and delivery of complex analog/mixed-signal blocks for optical transceivers.
- Architect, design, layout, and characterize ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog/mixed-signal circuits.
- Lead a large block on complex chips, drive schedules, participate in peer reviews, and mentor junior engineers.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity specifications.
- Develop and productize high-speed AMS circuits from concept through production.
- Work cross-functionally with digital/DSP, system, package, and module teams to integrate ICs into products.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- Design, simulation, and measurement experience for high-speed ICs in at least three areas among: high-speed serial links (SERDES), data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, PLLs, clock distribution/propagation, op-amps, programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization.
- Hands-on mixed-signal layout and floorplanning experience, including power/ground and analog/digital partitioning.
- Proficiency with mixed-signal simulation and design tools (Cadence/Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab) and EM analysis tools.
- Experience delivering designs to production and designing for manufacturability.
- Lab measurement and debugging skills; familiarity with ESD laboratory practices is beneficial.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications) and photonic integration.
- FinFET technology and custom transistor-level layout experience.
- High-frequency layout experience for passive components (inductors, transformers, transmission lines).
- Experience with EMX and advanced mixed-signal simulation flows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with 12+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years, or equivalent practical experience.
