Job Title

Senior Analog/mixed-signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Design, verify, and productize high-speed analog and mixed-signal CMOS integrated circuits for Acacia optical transceivers used in data center, metro, and long-haul networks. The role is on the Mixed-signal IC design team and requires cross-functional collaboration with digital/DSP, system, package, and module teams.

This is a hybrid role with three days per week in the San Jose, CA office.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The position expects an experienced engineer capable of leading large IC blocks, mentoring team members, and driving designs from concept to production.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include architecture, design, verification, and productionization of high-speed AMS CMOS blocks and integration into ASICs.

  • Architect, design, layout, measure, and productize ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS analog and mixed-signal ICs.
  • Lead design efforts for large, complex chip blocks; mentor junior engineers and track deliverables.
  • Perform peer reviews and establish design methodology from conception through production release.
  • Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
  • Develop high-speed serial link circuitry and analog front-end circuits for optical transceivers.
  • Drive characterization, debugging, and measurement of silicon in laboratory and system environments.
  • Contribute to floorplanning, power/ground planning, and cross-domain signal routing for mixed-signal chips.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and domain experience. Degree and years-of-experience equivalencies are listed in Education Requirements and have been removed from these bullets.

  • Design, simulation, and measurement experience with high-speed ICs across multiple areas; candidate must cover at least three of the areas listed below.
  • Hands-on experience with high-speed serial links: serializers/deserializers, data converters, and equalization techniques.
  • Experience with PLLs, clock transmission/propagation, output drivers, voltage regulators, opamps, and programmable gain amplifiers.
  • Layout and floorplanning experience for mixed-signal/high-frequency designs, including power/ground planning.
  • Silicon bring-up, lab characterization, and debugging of analog/mixed-signal circuits.
  • Proven ability to lead complex IC design efforts and work within cross-functional product teams.

Preferred:

  • Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications).
  • Experience with FinFET technologies and high-frequency layout of passives (inductors, transformers, transmission lines).
  • Custom transistor layout, design for manufacturability (DFM), and ESD laboratory practices.
  • Familiarity with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab, EMX, and AMS mixed-signal simulation flows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with 12+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 8+ years, or a PhD with 5+ years, or equivalent practical experience. Relevant fields include Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or other related technical disciplines; professional certifications are optional. (Degree and equivalency language extracted from the posting.)
