Job Title
Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Design and deliver high-speed analog/mixed-signal CMOS ICs for Acacia optical transceivers used in data center and telecom networks. The role sits in the mixed-signal IC design group working on high-speed (≥25 Gb/s) and high-accuracy analog designs intended for ASIC integration.
Work includes architecture, circuit and layout design, silicon characterization, and cross-disciplinary collaboration with digital/DSP, package, system and module teams.
Experience Level
Senior — requires substantial hands-on AMS IC design experience and leadership in delivering complex silicon; see Education Requirements for formal degree/experience combinations.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include leading complex analog/mixed-signal blocks through design, verification, and productization.
- Architect, design, layout, measure and productize ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS mixed-signal ICs.
- Lead a large block on complex chips, mentor engineers, track deliverables and drive design reviews.
- Define and apply solid design methodology from concept through production including peer review participation.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal integrity and power integrity requirements.
- Perform silicon bring-up, characterization, and debug; iterate designs to meet specifications and manufacturability targets.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience expected; degree and formal experience combinations are listed under Education Requirements.
-
Must-have: Proven hands‑on experience designing, simulating and measuring high-speed analog/mixed-signal ICs covering at least three of these areas: serializers/deserializers, data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, PLLs/clocking, op-amps, programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization.
-
Must-have: Experience with mixed-signal simulation and layout tools such as Cadence Virtuoso and Spectre/APS/SpectreX, and system-level analysis with MATLAB.
-
Must-have: Track record of delivering tapeouts and driving designs from architecture to production, including silicon validation and characterization.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with FinFET technologies, high-frequency layout, passive component design (inductors, transformers, transmission lines), custom transistor layout, and floorplanning for power/ground and signal routing.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with EM extraction/verification tools (e.g., EMX), ESD laboratory practices, and design-for-manufacturability techniques.
-
Other: Strong collaboration, mentoring and leadership skills in cross-functional environments.
Education Requirements
Formal combinations stated in the posting: BSEE with 12+ years of relevant experience, MS with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years, or equivalent practical experience. Fields referenced imply Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related technical disciplines; equivalent experience accepted.
