Job Title

Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer — Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Member of the mixed-signal IC design group developing high-speed and high-accuracy analog circuits for Acacia optical transceivers (100G, 400G, 1T) used in data center, metro and long-haul networks. The role leads design and productization of ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog/mixed-signal blocks and coordinates across digital/DSP, system, package and module teams.

Experience Level

Senior engineer. Cisco's minimum experience guidance: BSEE +12 years, MS +8 years, or PhD +5 years of related experience (or equivalent practical experience).

Responsibilities

Design, verify, and deliver high-speed analog/mixed-signal IC blocks from concept to production. Key responsibilities include:

  • Architect, design, lay out, measure and productize ultra-deep-submicron CMOS ICs.
  • Lead the design effort for large/complex blocks, set design methodology and track deliverables.
  • Mentor and review work of junior engineers; participate in peer design reviews.
  • Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity targets.
  • Perform silicon bring-up, laboratory characterization, and iterate designs based on measurements.
  • Ensure designs meet manufacturability, ESD, and test requirements for production.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items are listed separately.

  • Must-have: Proven track record designing, simulating, and measuring high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: high-speed serial links (serializers/deserializers, data converters), voltage regulators, output drivers, phase-locked loops, clock transmission/propagation, op amps, programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization.
  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with layout, characterization, and productization of analog/mixed-signal circuits in advanced CMOS processes.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane/cable), FinFET technology, high-frequency layout and passive components (inductors, transformers, transmission lines).
  • Nice-to-have: Floorplanning for power/ground and mixed-signal routing; custom transistor layout; design-for-manufacturability experience.
  • Nice-to-have: ESD laboratory practices and methodology, mixed-signal simulation experience (Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, AMS), Matlab, EMX or equivalent tools.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with ~12+ years' related experience, or Master’s degree (MS) with ~8+ years, or PhD with ~5+ years — or equivalent practical experience. Fields: Electrical Engineering or closely related technical disciplines; equivalent professional experience accepted.
