Job Title
Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Join the Mixed-Signal IC design group developing high-speed and high-accuracy analog designs for optical transceivers (100Gβ1T) used in data center, metro, and long-haul networks. This hybrid role requires on-site presence three days per week in San Jose, CA.
The role focuses on architecting, designing, laying out, measuring and productizing ultra-deep-submicron CMOS mixed-signal blocks that integrate into complex ASICs and modules.
Experience Level
Senior. This is a senior IC design role; see Education Requirements for degree/experience equivalencies and acceptable equivalent experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Architect, design, layout, measure and productize ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog/mixed-signal ICs for optical transceivers.
- Lead a large block on a complex chip: set technical direction, track deliverables, and participate in peer reviews.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and contribute to design methodology from concept through production.
- Collaborate with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
- Develop and validate high-speed AMS circuits and ensure manufacturability and testability.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Proven expertise in design, simulation and measurement of high-speed analog/mixed-signal ICs across multiple areas such as serializers/deserializers, data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, PLLs, clock transmission/propagation, op amps, programmable gain amplifiers and equalization.
- Experience with high-speed measurement and lab characterization practices, including ESD lab methodology.
- Strong custom layout and floorplanning experience (power/ground, digital/analog partitioning, high-frequency routing).
- Experience with Cadence Virtuoso flows and simulators (Spectre/APS/SpectreX) and MATLAB; familiarity with EMX or similar EM tools is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to design for manufacturability and collaborate with package/hardware teams on SI/PI requirements.
- Preferred but not required: experience with transceiver/backplane applications, FinFET processes, passive RF components (inductors, transformers, transmission lines), and mixed-signal AMS simulations.
Education Requirements
Degree and equivalent-experience options listed by the employer: B.S. in Electrical Engineering with 12+ years of experience, M.S. with 8+ years, or Ph.D. with 5+ years, or equivalent practical experience. Fields implied: Electrical/Electronic Engineering or closely related technical disciplines. (No professional certification requirement specified.)
