Job Title
Senior Analog/mixed-signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Member of the Acacia mixed‑signal IC design group developing high‑speed, high‑accuracy analog designs for optical transceivers used in data center, metro and long‑haul networks. The role spans architecture, circuit design, layout, measurement and productization of ultra‑deep submicron CMOS ICs and requires cross‑functional collaboration with digital/DSP, packaging and system teams.
Experience Level
Senior. Experience expectations vary by degree (see Education Requirements) but this is a senior engineering role with leadership and ownership of large IC blocks.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Architect, design, layout, measure and productize high‑speed analog/mixed‑signal CMOS circuits and blocks from concept to production.
- Lead efforts for large, complex IC blocks; define specifications, schedules and deliverables; run and participate in peer design reviews.
- Mentor and guide team members; establish and enforce design methodology and best practices.
- Collaborate with packaging, hardware, digital/DSP and system teams to meet signal and power integrity and integration requirements.
- Develop and validate AMS circuits (SERDES, data converters, PLLs, regulators, drivers, op‑amps, programmable gain amplifiers and equalizers) and support lab characterization.
- Ensure designs satisfy manufacturability, testability and ESD requirements during productization.
Requirements
Technical must‑have and preferred skills.
-
Must-have: Proven experience designing, simulating and measuring high‑speed AMS ICs, including serializers/deserializers, data converters, PLLs, clock distribution, op‑amps, programmable gain amplifiers, voltage regulators, output drivers and equalization.
- Hands‑on lab measurement and validation experience for high‑speed transceiver circuits.
- Proficiency with analog/mixed‑signal simulation and verification tools (examples: Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Cadence AMS flows).
- Experience with analog layout and floorplanning for mixed‑signal/high‑frequency designs.
-
Nice-to-have: FinFET process experience; passive/high‑frequency component design (inductors, transformers, transmission lines); custom transistor layout; EM tools (EMX); MATLAB; experience designing for manufacturability and ESD lab methodology.
- Experience in electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications) is beneficial.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with 12+ years' relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years, or equivalent practical experience. Fields referenced include Electrical/Electronics/Computer Engineering or related technical disciplines. Equivalent experience in lieu of degree is accepted.
