Job Title
Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia
Role Summary
Join the Mixed-Signal IC design group building high-speed, high-accuracy analog designs for Acacia optical transceivers (100Gβ1T). This hybrid role is based in San Jose with a three-day-per-week on-site expectation.
Lead the architecture, design, verification, and productization of analog/AMS blocks and collaborate with digital/DSP, system, package, and module teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Candidates should be capable of leading complex analog blocks, mentoring engineers, and driving projects from concept to production. See Education Requirements for degree-and-years guidance.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, verification, lab characterization, and production readiness of high-speed analog/mixed-signal ICs, plus technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration.
- Architect, design, layout, measure, and productize ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog/AMS blocks for optical transceivers.
- Lead development of large, complex IC blocks; mentor team members and track deliverables.
- Participate in peer design reviews and apply robust design methodology from conception through production.
- Collaborate with packaging, hardware, and system teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
- Develop and validate high-speed serializers/deserializers, data converters, PLLs, regulators, amplifiers, and equalization circuits.
- Support lab characterization, debug, and design-for-manufacturability activities.
Requirements
Must-have technical capabilities and proven experience:
- Design, simulation, and measurement experience on high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: serializers/deserializers, data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, PLLs/clock distribution, op amps, programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization.
- Hands-on experience with high-speed analog/mixed-signal circuit development and laboratory measurement.
- Strong mixed-signal layout and floorplanning skills (power/ground, digital/analog routing).
- Track record of leading cross-functional teams and delivering complex IC projects to production.
- Solid problem-solving, documentation, and peer-review practices.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane/cable communications) and FinFET processes.
- High-frequency passive/layout experience (inductors, transformers, transmission lines).
- Custom transistor layout and design-for-manufacturability expertise.
- Familiarity with ESD laboratory practices and mixed-signal simulation tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, MATLAB, and EMX.
Education Requirements
BSEE with 12+ years of relevant experience, or MS with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years, or equivalent practical experience. Preferred fields include Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical disciplines. No specific certifications required.
