Job Title
Senior Analog/mixed-signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia
Role Summary
Design and productize ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog/mixed-signal ICs for high-speed optical transceivers (100G–1T). The role is on the Mixed-signal IC design team and requires close collaboration with digital/DSP, system, package and module design teams.
This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in the San Jose, CA office.
Experience Level
Senior. Experience guidance provided by the employer: BSEE +12 years, MS +8 years, PhD +5 years, or equivalent practical experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture, design, validation and productionization of high-speed AMS ICs and leading technical efforts on complex chips.
- Architect, design, lay out, measure and productize ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog/mixed-signal ICs for optical communications.
- Lead design efforts for large blocks on complex chips; set and maintain design methodology, track deliverables, and mentor team members.
- Develop high-speed AMS circuits such as serializers/deserializers, data converters, PLLs, drivers, amplifiers and equalizers.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity specifications and support system integration.
- Participate in peer reviews, chip bring-up, measurement/characterization, and production validation.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Proven design, simulation and measurement experience with high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: serializers/deserializers, data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, phase-locked loops/clock transmission, op amps, programmable gain amplifiers, or equalization.
- Hands-on experience with high-speed analog/mixed-signal circuit development and laboratory measurement practices.
- Ability to lead complex design blocks, define methodology from conception to production, and mentor junior engineers.
Nice-to-have / preferred:
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications) and transceiver system requirements.
- Experience with FinFET technology and designing for manufacturability.
- High-frequency layout and passive component design (inductors, transformers, transmission lines); custom transistor layout experience.
- Floorplanning experience (power/ground, digital/analog signal routing) and ESD laboratory practices/methodology.
- Familiarity with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab, EMX and mixed-signal (AMS) simulation flows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with 12+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s (MS) with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years of relevant experience — or equivalent practical experience. Degrees in Electrical Engineering or related technical fields are expected.
