Job Title

Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia

Role Summary

Member of the Mixed-Signal IC Design group responsible for architecting, designing, laying out, measuring and productizing ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS analog and mixed-signal circuits for optical transceivers used in data center, metro and long-haul networks.

This is a hybrid role based in the San Jose, CA office (three days per week) working with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams to deliver high-speed (>=25 Gb/s) and high-accuracy analog designs for 100G–1T products.

Experience Level

Senior. See Education Requirements for degree and years-of-experience guidance.

Responsibilities

The role will lead complex analog/mixed-signal IC design efforts from concept through production and coordinate with cross-functional teams.

  • Architect, design, layout, measure and productize high-speed CMOS analog/mixed-signal IC blocks.
  • Lead large block design efforts, mentor junior engineers, track deliverables and participate in peer reviews.
  • Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
  • Develop high-speed AMS circuits and support integration into ASICs and modules.
  • Support productionization activities, verification and measurements in the lab.

Requirements

Concise list of required and preferred technical skills. Degree and years-of-experience are listed under Education Requirements below.

  • Must-have: Design, simulation and measurement experience of high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas:
    • High-speed serial links (serializers/deserializers, data converters)
    • Voltage regulators and power management
    • Output drivers and equalization
    • Phase-locked loops and clock transmission/propagation
    • Operational amplifiers and programmable gain amplifiers
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane/cable), FinFET technology, high-frequency layout and passive component design (inductors, transformers, transmission lines), floorplanning, custom transistor layout, design for manufacturability, and ESD laboratory practices.
  • Tools and simulation: Familiarity with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab, EMX and mixed-signal simulations in AMS is desirable.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications: BSEE with 12+ years of relevant experience, or MS with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years, or equivalent practical experience. Field: electrical/analog/mixed-signal engineering or closely related technical discipline. (These degree-and-years combinations are the stated minimums.)
