Job Title

Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia

Role Summary

Member of the Mixed-Signal IC design group at Acacia (Cisco) developing high-speed, high-accuracy analog designs for optical transceivers used in data center and telecom networks.

This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in the San Jose, CA office. The role focuses on architecting, designing, laying out, measuring and productizing ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS analog/mixed-signal ICs.

Experience Level

Senior. See Education Requirements for the role's experience-year equivalencies.

Responsibilities

The role leads complex analog/mixed-signal blocks from concept through production and collaborates across disciplines to meet system requirements.

  • Architect, design, layout, and validate ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS analog/mixed-signal ICs for optical transceivers.
  • Lead design efforts for large blocks on complex chips; mentor engineers and track deliverables.
  • Participate in peer design reviews and define robust design methodology to move designs to production.
  • Collaborate with package and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity specifications.
  • Develop and optimize high-speed AMS circuits (serial links, data converters, PLLs, drivers, equalizers, etc.).
  • Support measurement, characterization, and productization activities, including manufacturability and ESD considerations.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • Proven experience in design, simulation and measurement of high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: high-speed serial links (serdes), serializers/deserializers, data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, phase-locked loops (PLLs), clock transmission/propagation, op amps, programmable gain amplifiers (PGAs), and equalization.
  • Practical experience developing high-speed analog/mixed-signal circuits and taking them toward product release.
  • Hands-on experience with IC layout and collaboration with packaging and system teams to ensure signal/power integrity.
  • Experience with measurement, characterization, and debug of high-speed mixed-signal ICs.

Preferred / nice-to-have:

  • Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications) and FinFET technologies.
  • High-frequency layout and passive component design (inductors, transformers, transmission lines).
  • Floorplanning and custom transistor layout experience.
  • Design-for-manufacturability experience and ESD laboratory practices.
  • Familiarity with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab, EMX and mixed-signal AMS simulations.

Education Requirements

Minimum degree or equivalent experience: BSEE with 12+ years of relevant experience, MS (any relevant engineering degree) with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years β€” or equivalent practical experience. Fields: electrical engineering or equivalent technical field. (Source uses "or equivalent" for experience substitution.)
