Job Title
Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia
Role Summary
Lead architecture, design, layout, measurement and productization of ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS analog and mixed-signal ICs for Acacia optical transceivers used in data center and telecom networks.
Work in a mixed-signal IC design team collaborating with digital/DSP, package, system and module designers to deliver high-speed (25Gb/s and above) and high-accuracy analog blocks that integrate into complex ASICs.
Experience Level
Senior level. The posting specifies degree-based experience alternatives: BSEE with 12+ years, MS with 8+ years, PhD with 5+ years, or equivalent practical experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include ownership of complex analog/mixed-signal blocks from concept to production and collaboration across engineering disciplines.
- Architect, design, layout, measure and productize analog/mixed-signal CMOS IC blocks for high-speed optical transceivers.
- Lead design efforts for large blocks on complex chips; drive schedules, deliverables, and design reviews.
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to team members; enforce sound design methodology.
- Collaborate with package, hardware and system teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
- Perform lab characterization, validation and debugging of high-speed mixed-signal ICs; support yield and manufacturability efforts.
- Contribute to floorplanning, layout strategy and cross-domain integration for mixed-signal ASICs.
Requirements
Degree requirements and equivalent-experience alternatives are listed under Education Requirements below. The bullets here list must-have technical skills and preferred capabilities.
Must-have:
- Proven design, simulation and measurement experience of high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: high-speed serial links (serializers/deserializers), data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, phase-locked loops (PLLs), clock transmission/propagation, operational amplifiers, programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization.
- Hands-on experience with analog/mixed-signal verification, lab characterization, and silicon bring-up of high-speed circuits.
- Practical experience with layout considerations for high-speed/analog blocks and cross-domain integration.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications) and FinFET technology.
- High-frequency layout and passive component design (inductors, transformers, transmission lines).
- Floorplanning for power/ground and mixed-signal routing; custom transistor layout and design-for-manufacturability (DFM) experience.
- Familiarity with ESD laboratory practices and methodology.
- Tool experience: Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab, EMX and mixed-signal (AMS) simulation flows.
Education Requirements
Required: BSEE with 12+ years of relevant experience, or MS with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years, or equivalent practical experience. The posting implies Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent technical degree/experience in related engineering fields.
