Job Title
Senior Analog/mixed-signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia
Role Summary
Join the Mixed-signal IC design group within Acacia (Cisco) to architect, design, layout, measure, and productize ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog and mixed-signal circuits for high-speed optical transceivers (100G, 400G, 1T). The team works closely with digital/DSP, system, package and module design groups to integrate AMS blocks into complex ASICs.
This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week at the San Jose, CA office.
Experience Level
Senior-level; typically 8+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include ownership of complex AMS blocks through conception to production and cross-functional collaboration.
- Architect, design, simulate, layout, characterize, and productize high-speed analog/mixed-signal CMOS circuits for optical transceivers.
- Lead a large block on complex chips, set design methodology, track deliverables, and participate in peer reviews.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers; coordinate project schedules and technical trade-offs.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
- Develop and verify serializers/deserializers, data converters, PLLs, clock distribution, output drivers, regulators, op amps, PGAs, and equalizers as required.
- Drive design-for-manufacturability, ESD practices, and handoff to test and production.
Requirements
Concise list of required and preferred skills. Degree and formal education expectations are listed under Education Requirements below.
-
Must-have: Extensive analog/mixed-signal IC design experience for high-speed applications; hands-on experience in design, simulation, and measurement of high-speed ICs across multiple areas (see examples below).
-
Must-have (technical areas β at least three): high-speed serial links (SERDES), serializers/deserializers, data converters, PLLs/clock distribution, output drivers, voltage regulation, op amps/programmable gain amplifiers, equalization, or related high-speed analog blocks.
-
Must-have: Proven experience leading complex IC blocks and collaborating with digital/DSP, package, and system teams.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with transceiver applications (backplane/cable), FinFET technology, high-frequency passive design (inductors, transformers, transmission lines), floorplanning, custom transistor layout, and manufacturability.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with ESD lab practices and mixed-signal simulations.
-
Nice-to-have tools: Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab, EMX.
Education Requirements
Degree and equivalent experience expectations stated by the employer: BSEE with ~12+ years of relevant experience, or MS with ~8+ years, or PhD with ~5+ years, or equivalent practical industry experience. Field: Electrical Engineering or closely related technical disciplines.
