Job Title

Senior Algorithm Engineer

Role Summary

Develop advanced computational, AI-driven, and physics-based algorithms for optical metrology, inspection, and semiconductor process control. Work within the Films and Scatterometry Technologies (FaST) division alongside software, optics, systems, and hardware engineers to deliver production-ready algorithmic solutions.

Experience Level

Senior — the role targets experienced engineers. The posting expects 10+ years of industry experience in algorithm development; minimum qualifications specify equivalencies: Doctorate +5 years, Master's +8 years, Bachelor's +12 years.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities focus on algorithm design, implementation, and production deployment for semiconductor metrology systems.

  • Design, implement, and optimize algorithms for metrology, inspection, and process control.
  • Develop ML/DL and physics-informed models to improve measurement accuracy and throughput.
  • Integrate algorithms into scalable, production-grade software for training, validation, and deployment.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (software, optics, systems, hardware, applications) to deliver product features.
  • Apply computational imaging, computer vision, signal processing, and statistical analysis to customer problems.
  • Prototype AI and simulation-acceleration technologies and evaluate feasibility for product roadmaps.
  • Optimize performance using GPU acceleration and high-performance computing techniques.
  • Analyze large datasets to diagnose issues, improve models, and guide development.
  • Provide technical leadership through design reviews, mentorship, and cross-functional coordination.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for immediate contribution; education details are summarized under Education Requirements below.

  • 10+ years of industry experience developing algorithms in production environments.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, and C++ for algorithm development and prototyping.
  • Practical experience with machine learning, deep learning, or AI-based solutions.
  • Experience developing physics-based algorithms for optical and x‑ray electromagnetic simulations.
  • Strong background in numerical methods, statistical modeling, optimization, and data analysis.
  • Experience with GPU acceleration, high-performance computing, and efficient software architectures.
  • Excellent problem-solving, verbal and written communication, and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with semiconductor metrology, lithography, inspection, or process control applications.
  • Expertise in computational electromagnetics, optical system modeling, and image processing.
  • Familiarity with surrogate modeling, neural operators, or simulation-acceleration methods.
  • Track record building production-grade software that integrates algorithms into customer-facing products.

Education Requirements

MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Imaging, Machine Learning, or a related technical field is preferred. The posting specifies minimum-experience equivalencies: Doctorate plus 5 years related work experience; Master’s plus 8 years; Bachelor’s plus 12 years. "Related field" and equivalent practical experience are acceptable.
