Role Summary

Join the Advanced Packaging Technology Development (APTD) Metrology Group to lead metrology and inspection capability development for advanced packaging programs. The role combines hands-on metrology equipment qualification and operation with strategic roadmap development to ensure measurement coverage and tool readiness for development and production.

The engineer will be embedded in pathfinding and development programs, own end-to-end qualification of new metrology tools, provide fab support, and work across integration, module engineering, automation, and program leadership.

Experience Level

Senior-level (experienced hire). This role expects a candidate with established, practical experience in semiconductor metrology, process development, or module/fab technology development.

Responsibilities

Accountable for defining metrology strategies, qualifying equipment, and supporting manufacturing and development programs.

• Drive metrology technology development and enablement across manufacturing and future nodes.
• Design and develop metrology and inspection processes, including materials selection, parameter optimization, and equipment configuration.
• Define and own the metrology group's long-range technology roadmap based on industry trends and program needs.
• Perform pathfinding and feasibility studies using simulations and experimental methods to evaluate new measurement approaches.
• Evaluate and qualify next-generation metrology and inspection equipment end-to-end: installation, acceptance testing, process validation, and fab readiness.
• Serve as primary technical resource for fab support: diagnose excursions, resolve metrology-related holds, and maintain tool performance and availability.
• Recommend and implement equipment and process modifications to improve production efficiency and output.
• Partner with equipment and materials suppliers to co-develop and influence next-generation tool capabilities and roadmaps.
• Develop rapid inline feedback mechanisms and collaborate with AI/ML/APC teams to enable predictive and context-aware monitoring.
• Represent metrology readiness and risk in cross-functional program reviews.

Requirements

• Must-have: Practical experience in semiconductor processing, wafer-level assembly, or cleanroom environments.
• Must-have: Proficiency in process development methodologies, statistical process control (SPC), and manufacturing process improvement.
• Must-have: Technical experience in module engineering or fab process/hardware technology development and equipment qualification.
• Must-have: Experience owning tool qualification from installation through process validation and fab acceptance.
• Nice-to-have: Strong metrology fundamentals and prior metrology development experience.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with packaging processes, equipment automation development, or project management.
• Nice-to-have: Demonstrated ability to use data analysis tools for process optimization; experience with Python, dashboard creation, or scripting.
• Nice-to-have: Direct technical engagement with metrology equipment vendors at a roadmap/co-development level.
• Nice-to-have: Strong collaboration skills across cross-functional teams including yield and operations.

Education Requirements

One of the following is required: Bachelor's degree in materials science, electrical, mechanical, chemical engineering, physics, chemistry, or a related STEM field (typically with ~4+ years relevant experience); OR a Master’s degree in those fields (typically with ~2+ years relevant experience); OR a PhD in a related field.
