Semiconductor Package Electrical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead the electrical design of semiconductor packages and related reference PCBs to optimize product cost and performance in collaboration with IC circuit designers. Focus is on products containing high-speed memory interfaces and high-speed serial communication circuits.
Investigate package and PCB technology trends, propose and develop necessary design techniques for next-generation products, and potentially lead the design team over time.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically requires 3+ years of relevant practical experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead semiconductor package design activities, coordinating with IC circuit designers to meet cost and performance targets.
- Design patterns/layouts for package substrates and reference printed circuit boards for high-speed memory and serial-interface products.
- Perform signal-integrity and high-frequency electrical design reviews for package and board layouts.
- Research package and PCB technology trends and propose design techniques for next-generation products.
- Support electrical characterization and EMC/EMI evaluation planning and testing coordination.
- Mentor staff and assume team-lead responsibilities as the role evolves.
Requirements
Required and preferred qualifications:
- Must-have: Minimum 3 years practical experience in semiconductor package design.
- Must-have: Minimum 3 years practical experience in high-speed electrical design or RF/high-frequency electrical design.
- Must-have: Ability to work according to the company's values (Transparent, Agile, Global, Innovation, Entrepreneurial).
- Nice-to-have: Experience in package design at a semiconductor manufacturer (3+ years).
- Nice-to-have: Experience with electromagnetic simulation tools (e.g. HFSS, Q3D) - ~3+ years.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with high-frequency circuit simulation tools (e.g. ADS, HSPICE) - ~3+ years.
- Nice-to-have: Experience in electrical characterization using VNA, impedance analyzer, or EMC evaluation - ~3+ years.
