Semiconductor Device Modeling Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
Semiconductor Device Modeling Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Compact Device Modeling Group (CDMG) in Intel's Design Technology Platform to develop and maintain compact transistor models and workflows that enable design teams to deliver advanced process-based products. The role focuses on compact-model development, extraction, fitting, and integration with circuit simulation and characterization flows.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical background: several years of semiconductor industry experience (see Education Requirements for degree-and-years combinations used to screen candidates).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing, validating, and supporting compact device models and associated flows for advanced transistor technologies.
- Develop, calibrate, and maintain compact models (e.g., BSIM-CMG) for advanced nodes such as FinFET and GAA.
- Perform IV/CV fitting, model retargeting, and corner/statistical variation modeling.
- Use extraction tools and commercial SPICE-level simulators to validate models and circuits.
- Develop LLE/LDE and self-heating models and incorporate their impact into device models.
- Create methodologies for device targeting and benchmarking circuits (e.g., ring oscillators) including corners and statistical analyses.
- Automate modeling and documentation tasks using Python and scripting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across process, layout, and circuit design groups; communicate results to stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; educational degree details are summarized under Education Requirements below.
Must-have:
- Hands-on experience with BSIM-CMG and other compact transistor models at advanced nodes (typically 3+ years on modeling tasks).
- Proficiency with extraction tools (examples: ICCAP, MBP) and commercial simulators (HSPICE, Spectre, or equivalent).
- Strong practice in IV/CV fitting, model retargeting, and corner/statistical variation modeling.
- Experience developing LLE/LLE or LLE-equivalent models for FinFET or GAAFET technologies.
- Proficiency in Python for automation, data processing, and documentation.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Open Model Interface (OMI) or similar modeling frameworks.
- Deep understanding of process flow, layout effects, and basic circuit simulation/benchmarking.
- Experience modeling self-heating effects and their circuit impact.
- Experience developing device targeting and benchmarking methodologies and leading technical efforts across teams/geographies.
- Familiarity with applying machine learning techniques to data analysis or compact model development.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (typical screening: Master's + ~5 years industry experience) OR Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (typical screening: Ph.D. + ~3 years industry experience). Preferred candidates may have a Ph.D. with more extensive experience (e.g., 8+ years). Fields referenced: Electrical Engineering and related technical disciplines. No specific certifications were listed.
